How to Monetize Your Small Following: PART 1

In this blog post, we'll begin to cover the most effective methods to convert your cold leads to hot leads, who are excited to pay you for your services, no matter what size your current following is. In part one, I'll tell you the top 3 mistakes I see entrepreneurs make when it comes to connecting to, and converting, their small following. Stay tuned for next week where we'll dive deep into the nurture, pre-launch, and launch phases of your content and how to get the most out of each of them.

 

 

Common mistakes I see when trying to monetize an audience:

1. The belief that “more eyes = more money”


Most people think that you need to have a ridiculous amount of leads in order to create a larger income. YOU DON’T! The truth is - it doesn't matter how many followers you have if you’re not creating an amazing customer experience, building genuine connections, and developing your brand. Your leads have to trust you and understand what you have to offer to them, above all else.

Plus, think about it… If you can’t sell to a small following then how can you sell to a large one when it’s infinitely more difficult to connect with them? I know some business owners with tens of thousands of followers that were making way less than I was when I had around 1% of their follower amount because they just weren’t able to connect; the number seriously just doesn’t matter.


2. The belief that strategy is more important than connection.


There are so many entrepreneurs that will do all the things: post a bunch of stuff, develop a course, get on stories, create a free challenge or masterclass, plan out a launch… and then flop… and they have no idea why! We’ve all been there, especially me, so if this resonates, that’s okay. <3


But when that does happen, it’s important to understand that the missing link is a genuine connection with the audience. There are no DM’s, no value in the content that’s posted, and it’s super unclear what’s being offered as it’s mostly just pitching the product without actually selling the transformation underneath. 


And this brings me to the last mistake…

 

3. Hiding behind the fact that a launch is coming.


Creating product awareness and hype around your product before you launch is SO important!

I would even argue that it’s more important than the actual launch itself. 

It is essential to speak about your upcoming launch and product in order to get your audience warmed up to you and wanting to purchase from you.


If you hide behind sharing your upcoming launch, you’re going to end up with a lot of audience members who need more time to learn about your product and decide whether or not they want to purchase it. 


But, most entrepreneurs feel weird about sharing their products before they launch...

If that’s you, you likely are scared to lose followers or scared that your audience is going to get tired of hearing your pitch.

So when this thought comes up, I want you to question yourself: Do I really care about losing audience members who weren’t going to pay me for my services during a launch?

Remember, you’re not just aiming to retain followers, you’re aiming to grow a following of people who trust you and value you enough to use your paid services and be a part of a long-term community.
